The Best Homemade, Heart-Shaped Chicken Nuggets

Some days, you’re Super Mommy; everything is wonderfully organized, home stays picked up,  and dinner is deliciously from scratch. Then, some days, you just aren’t and you feed your kids chicken nuggets. That sounded like chicken nuggets are the worst things ever to feed your kids, right? They aren’t, but I always internally hang my head in shame when I say my toddlers love chicken nuggets. Why should anyone care? All kids love chicken nuggets!

What’s so bad about chicken nuggets?!


While they do offer some better-for-you, store-bought brands, chicken nuggets are typically:

-Highly processed

-High in sodium and fat

-Deep fried

-Coated in breading made of bleached flour

-Comprised of fillers (so, not totally made of chicken!)

-Filled with a ton of preservatives and a long list of ingredients we can’t even pronounce

In my guilt of giving my kiddos chicken nuggets, I decided one day to try a recipe of making my own and they turned out pretty yummy! Chicken nuggets are super easy to make and fun. Read on to learn how and make your own, too! In all their little heart-shaped goodness, these nuggets are filled with lots of love. 🙂


You’ll be creating your own blended meat mixture


Shaping some cute, little hearts (or whatever shape) out of the stuff


Then, mixing up a little bread crumbs

Coating your precious, little nuggets in the yummy crumbs

and putting them neatly onto your pan to bake them to a delicious crisp (finished nuggets are not pictured here). 🙂




Fun cookie cutter shapes! (Optional, but so cute)

½ lb chicken breast

½ cup bread crumbs (Can use panko if you prefer a crunchier nugget)

1 egg

1 tsp onion powder

1 tsp garlic powder

1 tsp black pepper

1 tbsp dried parsley

A dash of salt or to taste

2 tbsp butter or olive oil


  1. Boil chicken breast 20 minutes in water (add chicken to water already boiling hot)
  2. Blend together cooked chicken breast, egg and salt in blender
  3. Add spices to plain bread crumbs
  4. Pack small balls of meat into cookie cutters or just flatten out to circle, nugget shapes
  5. Roll in bread crumbs
  6. Place nuggets onto a baking pan
  7. Drizzle with a lil olive oil or butter (for crispier nuggets!)
  8. Bake at 400 degrees for 10 minutes (flip over halfway if you want both sides crisp)

Dip into favorite sauce and enjoy !
